Great explanation Drew! Sometimes I think people get confused and think they’re generalized anxiety is a continuous panic attack. What they need to realize is in time working tools that guide us will help lower the generalized anxiety feelings and help towards recovery. I’ve been doing this gig now since last November 2021 absorbing everything I can about anxiety and the tools dealing with the 💍Husband cancer journey absorbing everything I can about anxiety and learning the tools. I am in such a better place today than I was back in November. It takes time, persistence, patience and the will to keep striving forward knowing there is better days ahead. Love you Big Guy!

Early on in my journey, I would often google panic horror stories. I have no idea why I did that. But I would come across posts that said someone’s attack lasted for days. I’d also read stories that said things like “I had a panic attack that was so bad that I blacked out and found myself in a different city six hours later” and “I had a panic attack that caused me to be so out of control that I was taken to a psychiatric ER in handcuffs.” These stories were catnip for me, because they described my worst fears.

But when I look back from a place of recovery, I realize— 1) about 90% of what you read on the internet is totally made up anyway and 2) There are people in the world who have mental illnesses— actual mental illnesses— that can cause all sorts of frightening things to happen. I work in psychiatry now, and I’ve encountered patients with bipolar who can “black out” during an episode of mania, for example. That isn’t a panic attack, and it has nothing to do with anxiety disorders. But if some anonymous person blogging or tweeting uses words like “panic” and, reading those with no context, you take them at their word, you’re going to get totally freaked out about what “panic” can do.
