OMG...the therapist I was seeing and even the functional medicine people were pushing this .....😩God it's just like every other FAD that those people hook into and don't question.....MOLD illness, LYME, Epstein Barr Virus😖. Those things are not not a thing but that's what they all start diagnosing everyone with.....jumping on the bandwagon without using much logic.....or their brains....And yes, if you have anxiety....or digestive issues...gotta chill the vagus nerve....I almost bought this little vibrator thing that you put on your chest to vibrate the vagus nerve.......😲😡We need people to do proper investigation and studies...and practitioners need to use the pubmed to research how they choose to treat patients....not just hop on the trendy wagon🙄🙄🙄Sorry, this obviously hit a button 😆

This reply is exactly one year late, but better late than never.🤓

Life is full of people trying to make a buck and some will kid themselves, and some will outright lie. The Dopesick series about Purdue Pharma and the opioid crisis is a great example of this ! Your MD or drug company has no exact idea why an SSRI works for some of us, but now they are way over prescribed and over monitized. Nobody mentions that they don't really work half of the time and that they partly help by placebo. Who knows the true full biological effects on each individual? Never mind the unwanted effects and problems getting off. You can guess I'm on one.🤢 Therapy, time and reflection/acceptance is always needed too.

Therapists are always going to be a bit hit and miss and it does annoy me that those who are quacks can take money because they can, and not because of good practice. Even some acting in good faith may just me over simplifying types who are easily convinced, and willing to have a go.

The internet has a lot to answer for😡

We hope to find a good therapist that is more of an objective practitioner rather than a bluffy one. How to do this I have no idea. Such is life.🙃

I’ve shied away from reading any of the information I see that mentions ‘polyvagal’ because the word sounds like a mangy British 1960s upholstery. The email title threw me. I put off my morning Anxious Truth until 3 pm when I was brave and then relieved. 😂

"Mangy 1960s British upholstery" is the BEST thing I am going to hear all day today! I'm cracking up over here.

I think everyone wants a quick fix. Supplements, acupuncture, myofascial release, vagus nerve manipulation, even medication. Do this and you will get your life back. My doctor literally said that to me when prescribing an SSRI for me. It messed with my identity as always having been able to handle things though. Not that medication, acupuncture or other things haven’t helped people. But they’re not other a quick fix. Recovery takes hard work and way more time than you want it to. And there is no timeline. My husband recently noted how what my therapist is doing is working. I countered what I am doing is working. I am putting all the work in, my therapist is just a guide. If I am not doing the hard work nothing will happen. That’s my rant for the day. LOL

Oh dear Drew. I was afraid this would happen when you start being academic on us. I hope the system won't take you away from us more mortals.
