I'm doing this right now. A friend got upset with me for not visiting while I'm sick with a virus. I took that to mean that they no longer want to talk to me and don't want to be my friend anymore.

So, so good! What I struggle with now is the realization that I’ve let emotional reasoning disrupt my life path for decades. I had such high hopes for an awesome career prior to being diagnosed with panic disorder at 19. Now 55, I feel stuck at a low level professionally.

Totally agree. It is so hard to extrapolate with how you feel to what is real. And l think some people are naturally more 'emotional ' than others and highly sensitive to not just their emotions but the environment, etc. As you say the key is awareness and to question feelings hopefully before allowing to dictate actions and thus avoidance. Easier said then done, l know.
