Hoping is a state of being optimistic but in a passive way. It’s a great state to be in when u are seeking to be an active participant in your recovery. The Place between being hopeful and Actual doing is where many people get stuck. The only way to navigate that space is to just get through it. As you often say Drew it can feel irresponsible to do that but there is no other way. πŸ™πŸ»

And what about being positive during the process? , my therapist told me to stay in the middle. But I have found that when being positive, exposures tend to be less frightening and easier

Nothing wrong with being positive. You just can't demand to feel a certain way and if you are not feeling positive, you can't let yourself get all judgy about that. That's likely why your therapist is asking you to try to stay neutral. Because all states are allowable so they don't want you to demand a positive state or positive outcome.
