Another great one, I know I’ve crossed over into reassurance seeking so many times. After reading this I also see there have been times I just needed answers to something new. I have heard “reassurance seeking” so many times I beat myself up when I’m told
I’m doing it. This really helps put it all into perspective. I’ve learned so much here. I do have a therapist and she’s great, I see this as a nice companion to the work I do with her. The ideas and teachings here marry nicely to what I work on with her.
"When you’ve been told fifty times that your anxiety symptoms are not dangerous and you want to be told fifty more,,," I thought of rumination after reading this. While I don't ask others, I do ask myself internally for this reassurance around my anxiety symptoms. Never thought about it that way before.
Rumination is an attempt to use thinking to gain certainty or soothe fear. So yes, rumination can be a form of self-reassurance seeking. Excellent insight!
