This is me. I no longer get panic attacks. Occasionally I will get that flush of adrenaline that used to precede the panic attack. I note this is the start of a panic attack and like magic it vanishes.
But I still get the symptoms one at a time - shortness of breath being the prime example. It still freaks me out after years and I feel like I'm going to die. I continue on with my day, but the thought of death keeps knocking at the door the whole time and the shortness of breath thing continues. This is now my anxiety - panic attacks I don't care about, but this I still do despite, on a rational level, realising that there's no real issue here.
Now you've got me worried lol does that mean that GAD isn't fixable? I've known that's what I have for a while now, I don't have panic attacks but instead am anxious 24/7 and it turns into agoraphobia. I was going to ask you about that actually because I heard in another one of your podcast that you had never heard of someone having agoraphobia without having a panic disorder.. and, that's me!
Agoraphobia can exist without panic disorder. It's not that common but it can happen. When someone is doing everything they can think of to not be anxious, agoraphobia can be the result of that. And no, I did not say that GAD is unfixable. Notice how GAD will dig for any shred of problem to focus on, fix, figure out, or solve?
